Where will CV charging take place?
truck stop charging points needed by 2035
Commercial electric vehicles recharge at three broad types of locations, such as between shifts at their depots, at loading or waiting areas or at dedicated public truck stop charging stations.
Considering cost, convenience, and typical driving patterns, we expect the majority of CV charging to take place at depots, accounting for 75 to 90 percent of charging in most applications.
long-haul HDT charging at truck stops
Long-haul heavy-duty trucks are the big exception to this trend, as these vehicles will do 40 percent of their charging at truck stops.
Across China, the U.S., and Europe we expect demand for approximately 10 million CV charging points over the next decade, of which approximately 90 percent will be installed at depots.
Around 185,000 truck stop charging points will be required by 2035.
of charging energy demand coming from heavy-duty trucks
Using energy demand as a base, our analysis shows that heavy-duty trucks will account for more than 50 percent of the total energy demand by charging while representing just 18 percent of the electric commercial vehicle fleet.
