Will energy demand be an issue?
The impact of large electric vehicle parcs on overall electricity demand is another commonly cited concern. However, our analysis indicates that CV electrification will have a limited impact, adding only 3 to 5 percent to total electricity demand by 2035.
Ensuring that power is available where it is needed during peak times will be a greater challenge. Installing high-power charging equipment in some locations will require new power connections and upgrades to the local grid infrastructure. Closer collaboration between utilities and authorities - along with the adoption of new technical solutions, such as local energy storage and smart charging technologies - will be essential to prevent power problems putting the brakes on the electric CV transition.
